How To Grade the Baron Davis Signing

Baron Davis has always loved the big stage.
Effort.  Night in and night out.  That is what it's going to take for the Knicks' latest acquisition, Baron Davis, to succeed under the bright lights of the big city.  We know that the talent is there.  Basketball skill and ability have not been the issues holding Davis back, who at one point was one of the league's best point guards.  When applying concentration and determination to the game, Davis has the ability (especially with the talent surrounding him on the Knick roster) to continue to be an elite basketball player, and a key piece to the 2011-12 Knick puzzle.
However, injury and lack of commitment have historically been the two obstacles standing between Davis and consistent All-Star level play.

Why the Bench Should be Priority #1 for the Knicks

The Knicks bench, currently devoid of quality players, sits ready and waiting for new talent
to join the team before Christmas Day.  It's up to the front office to fill it.
Presently, the Knicks' bench is paper thin.  In fact, the starting 5 has glaring question marks at both guard positions.  But, as for the bench, I can't imagine the front office will allow the current iteration of the Knick roster to be the one we see taking the floor (or rather the sideline) Christmas Day.  The need for quality play coming off the bench is now priority number 1 for the Knicks.  Yes, the team is desperately in need of quality guards both on and off the ball, and yes, the point guard position is a top priority.  However, the Knicks are capable of surviving, if not thriving, with mediocre to decent play at the point if Carmelo Anthony embraces his new roll as a facilitator (a roll that head coach Mike D'antoni indicated would be asked of Melo this season).

Read on to see why the bench may be more important than the starting PG position this season.

Landry Fields: "My three is feeling great"

Landry Fields tweeted today, "My three is feeling great..."
The second year man out of Stanford was a key player in the first half of the Knicks' season last year, and his 3 point shot will be a huge factor determining his value and productivity in the 2011-12 season.

Bibby Is Better, But Knicks Still Have Hole At PG

Mike Bibby, the newest Knick, is a welcome addition
but not the long term final piece of the puzzle
for the championship minded Knicks
Mike Bibby has signed a one year deal with the New York Knicks.  This signing is a good one for the Knickerbockers, who will sign Bibby at the Veteran's Minimum.  With the lack of available point guards in the free agent pool this offseason, Bibby, though not the ideal candidate to lead the Knicks into the future, was one of the better options out there for the Knicks to grab, and grab him they did.

But the Knicks still need their point guard for the future, and there are options besides Chris Paul and Deron Williams.

The Chris Paul Trade Debacle Explained - Why David Stern is Right

It comes as a surprise that seemingly every basketball analyst, television, radio or otherwise, seems to have completely missed what Commissioner David Stern's decision to veto the initial proposed three team trade that would send Chris Paul from the Hornets to the Lakers was all about.
